Festival Hellenika, in association with the Adelaide Festival Centre, proudly presents Echoes of Piraeus – a mesmerizing concert celebrating the birthplace of Greek urban music.
Explore historic Piraeus – the gateway of migration, the harbour of tears, and the city of proud seamen, merchants, and workers. Discover the tavernas where sorrows were drowned in wine and song in picturesque Pasalimani, Faliro, and Kastella, and the neighborhoods of Drapetsona, and Kokkinia, each steeped in history and music.
Pay tribute to the legends of Greek urban music, from Markos Vamvakaris to Yiannis Papaioannou, Yiorgos Mitsakis and those that followed, whose timeless compositions resonate across generations.
